Conference "Professional Supervision: Common threads, different patterns" 2010

He Kōrari, He Kete, He Kōrero' - Insights for supervision with tangata whenua

Keynote address:

Moana ErueraA weaving together of Māori knowledge and processes from the past with our current supervision realities of the present as a guide for the provision of tangata whenua supervision for the future.

Supervision within the Aotearoa context has developed extensively over the past 10 years to respond to the dynamic society in which we work.  These developments include; indigenous and cultural supervision models, professional standards, research and writing, and, a noticeable increase in the use of supervision across social, health and education sectors.  The importance of cultural and tangata whenua models of supervision has been acknowledged as being unique within Aotearoa with specific obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi to support 'best practices' when working with Māori.

In this presentation Moana will share examples and insights which build on her tangata whenua supervision research and framework called 'He Kōrero Kōrari'.  This will include supervision models developed to support practice when working with Māori in a range of different fields including; whanau violence prevention, statutory social work and iwi social services within Tai Tokerau.
